TRANSIENCE I is about the ephemeral nature of the man-made world around us and the corruption of time. It is a collection of close-up colour photographs of various seemingly ordinary surfaces such as those on the sides of fishing boats, old doors and rusted machinery. The resulting images create surprising colourful and textural compositions that often resemble abstract paintings. Nik was drawn to the wonderful colours and textures of these overlooked surfaces. As the project progressed he discovered that many of the surfaces he had photographed earlier didn't exist anymore. Some had been painted over or replaced, whilst others had been changed by the forces of nature. Nik realised that he was capturing moments in time, never to be seen again. He wanted to make people look again at the world around us, to help them see the marvellous in the mundane.
