THE BEACH is a document in black & white of the flotsam and jetsam that gets washed up on Newlyn beach in Cornwall.

When Nik lived in Newlyn he would walk along the beach after a storm and see all the weird and wonderful objects thrown up by the sea. There were many surprising discoveries and he felt that it would make an interesting collection of photographs.

Among the beautiful objects that he found, like the shell of a crab, there was a great deal of man-made waste. It was, and still is, a worrying sign that our coastal waters are polluted with so much rubbish. Some of the items he discovered were dangerous and had no business being on a public beach.

Nik believes that we all have a resonsibility to look after the planet. We should start with our own neighbourhoods.
