REAR VIEW initially began because of Nik's shyness. He found that photographing the back of someone was less intrusive and confrontational. He also thought that visually it was more interesting.

He discovered that he had already shot several pictures over the years. The idea to take it forwards as a project and shoot more presented itself.

He found that he preferred the gentle, unobtrusive view of people at their most unselfconscious, unaware of the photographer recording their view of life at that particular moment.

Though there is a quiet humour in a number of the images the view is one of compassion rather than criticism, encouraging a sense of nostalgia and reminiscence.

As with most of Nik's work this project is ongoing.
