Lineage was the first exhibition by the Newlyn Society of Artists to be held at the newly refurbished and extended Newlyn Art Gallery in 2007. Twenty-four artists were selected to produce new works inspired by the Newlyn school of painters.

Nik took the painting The Rain It Raineth Every Day by Norman Garstin, 1889, as his point of departure for the exhibition. It is currently on display at Penlee House Gallery & Museum in Penzance. The contemporary composition, along with the fact that the promenade itself has changed little, gives the painting a timeless quality. It was whilst out walking along the promenade in the rain that Nik began to notice the textures and shapes that lay under his feet. The aged granite, cut concrete slabs and tarmac each added over time to reinforce the fabric of the prom created abstract compositions that made Nik reach for his camera.

Nik chose to elaborate this feature in graphic close-up transforming it into something ambiguous. In doing so he aimed to reveal the marvellous in the mundane. Nik wanted the viewer to see what lay underneath the film of familiarity.

Nik was one of five artists who exhibited work at both Newlyn Art Gallery and Penlee House Gallery & Museum.
