EXOTICA is a collection of black and white photographs that depict the weird and wonderful forms, textures and patterns of a variety of sub-tropical plants that thrive in Cornwall.

The plants are photographed in graphic close-up creating abstract compositions that both intrigue the viewer and compel them to investigate further. The inherent beauty of the shapes and surfaces are transformed into new and dynamic creations.

With this project Nik has attempted to open the eyes of others, to encourage them to look closer and hopefully to appreciate the beauty in the natural world that we often taken for granted.

All the photographs were made on location at Carwinion Garden, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Trengwainton, Glendurgan Garden and Hardy Exotics.

Nik would like to thank Clive, Julie and Sue at Hardy Exotics, Mike and Lorna at Heligan, Jane, Antony and Chris at Carwinion for all their invaluable help and assistance.

This project is dedicated to Nik's mum, Patricia, and her love of art and nature.
