Nik shot this photo-essay in the summer of 1997. He had discovered that there were all these wonderful urban farms dotted around the city. No one seemed to know that they existed and that there were so many of them.

Nik wanted the piece to have a humorous feel to it, to be upbeat, but at the same time respectful. He also wanted to give these farms some exposure and publicity. He wanted to inform other Londoners that these places existed in their city, and that they deserved our appreciation, help, and support.

Nik believes that the work that goes on at all these farms is incredibly important, especially to the children of the capital.
